HISTORY OF MUSEUM
In 1978 Lucy Lowrance had a dream of preserving the history of a small forgotten town out in the desert called Darwin.  She and Martha Haidal worked to get the little Darwin Museum going. Over the years they both moved away from the Darwin area and the little museum was somewhat forgotten.
In 1998 the Inyo Register newspaper wrote an article about a "Museum seeks a little TLC" describing how the Darwin Museum was at a cross-road and need help to survive. Rather than lose this valuable historic resource, a group of local residents from Southern Inyo County lead by Marlene Cierniak moved what was left of the Darwin Museum,
or The New Coso Heritage Society, Inc.,  to Lone Pine for greater access
by the public.
